Best email marketing apps for Shopify (for small stores)

Eight Shopify email apps compared for small stores, with each app's published price at 500 and 2,500 contacts and an honest best-for.

tinyAlbert team·5 min read

The short answer: The best email marketing apps for Shopify for a small store are Shopify Messaging if you send under 10,000 emails a month, Judge.me Email Marketing for a free per-email plan, Klaviyo or Omnisend for a full toolkit you run yourself, Seguno for a Shopify-native suite, and tinyAlbert or Wiz if you want AI to write the emails.

That is eight apps for eight different stores. Below you get each one's published price at 500 and 2,500 contacts, what it is best for, and where it falls short. Every price comes from the company's own pricing page or Shopify App Store listing, linked in the text. One disclosure before you start: tinyAlbert is our app. It is in the list, priced the same way as the others, and we say where other apps fit better.

Quick picks: which app fits which store

  • Shopify Messaging: best if you send fewer than 10,000 emails a month and want to stay inside the Shopify admin.
  • Klaviyo: best for stores that want a deep email and mobile messaging platform and have time to build their own flows.
  • Omnisend: best for stores that want email and SMS in one tool with simple contact pricing.
  • Judge.me Email Marketing: best free option for small senders who will set up their own campaigns.
  • Seguno: best for merchants who want a Shopify-native suite with popups, reviews and banners.
  • Wiz: best for stores that want AI-written emails with a strong focus on abandoned cart recovery.
  • Mailchimp: best for businesses already using Mailchimp for more than one shop or channel.
  • tinyAlbert: best for stores that want their email marketing done for them: a year of campaigns and the core automations written in their voice.

How we chose and priced these apps

We picked apps a small Shopify store is likely to compare: the four names that appear in the top-ranking lists for this search (Shopify's own Messaging, Klaviyo, Omnisend and Mailchimp), three Shopify-native challengers that show up often in Shopify App Store searches for email apps (Judge.me, Seguno and Wiz), and tinyAlbert.

For each app we read its own pricing page or App Store listing and wrote down the price exactly as published. Where a company does not publish a price for a list size, the table says so rather than guessing. We priced every app at two sizes that cover most small stores:

  • 500 contacts: a store in its first year, or a niche shop with a loyal list.
  • 2,500 contacts: a store with steady sales that is ready to email more often.

Some apps charge by contacts and some by emails sent, so we needed a sending pattern to compare them. We assumed 4 campaigns a month to every contact: 2,000 emails a month at 500 contacts and 10,000 at 2,500. If you send more or less, the per-email apps move and the per-contact apps do not.

We left out star ratings. They change every week and say little about whether an app suits a 500-person list. Check the current rating on each listing before you install.

Sources: Shopify Messaging pricing, Klaviyo pricing, Omnisend pricing with Omnisend's own stated prices at 2,500 contacts in its Shopify app guide (Pro) and Klaviyo alternatives guide (Standard), Judge.me Email Marketing listing, Seguno listing, Wiz listing, Mailchimp compare plans, and the tinyAlbert listing and pricing page. Prices are before any promotional discount.

Two things stand out. First, at these sizes the apps that charge by email sent (Shopify Messaging and Judge.me) cost nothing, so if price is the only test, start there. Second, the apps that charge by contact range from $10 to $59 a month at 2,500 contacts, and they include very different amounts of work. That second point is where the real choice sits. For a full breakdown at 10,000 and 25,000 contacts too, read how much email marketing costs for a Shopify store.

Why the cheapest app depends on how you send

The apps on this list bill for four different things, so a starting price tells you little on its own.

  • Emails sent (Shopify Messaging, Judge.me): you pay for volume. A big list you email once a month is cheap; a small list you email every day costs more than you might expect.
  • Contacts or subscribers (Omnisend, Seguno, Mailchimp, tinyAlbert): list size sets the price. Sending more often costs nothing extra, within each plan's send limit. Omnisend Standard and Mailchimp cap monthly sends; Seguno's and tinyAlbert's sends are not capped by plan.
  • Active profiles (Klaviyo): Klaviyo counts profiles that can receive marketing, and excludes unsubscribed and suppressed profiles. Each tier includes a monthly send capacity.
  • Active contacts (Wiz): the listing prices Pro and AI Agency up to 2,000 active contacts, with prices that rise as active contacts grow.

Run your own numbers before you decide. Multiply your list by the campaigns you plan to send each month, then add your automated emails. If the total stays under 10,000, Shopify Messaging is free. If you plan to email weekly or more, a per-contact price with unlimited sends is easier to budget. Our breakdown of Shopify email marketing cost works through this sum at different list sizes.

Three common cases, worked through

Here is how the sum plays out for three typical small stores, counting campaign emails only (add your automations on top). Prices come from the same pages as the table above.

Your storeEmails a monthShopify MessagingJudge.me (Forever Free)tinyAlbert
300 contacts, 2 campaigns a month600$0$0$10 (251 to 500 contacts)
1,500 contacts, 1 campaign a weekAbout 6,000$0$0$27 (1,001 to 1,500 contacts)
5,000 contacts, 1 campaign a weekAbout 20,000About $10 (10,000 over the free allowance at $1 per 1,000)About $0.75 (5,000 over 15,000 at $0.15 per 1,000)$90 (4,501 to 5,000 contacts)

On price alone, the per-email apps win at every size here. What the table cannot show is the time: with Shopify Messaging or Judge.me you plan and write every one of those campaigns yourself, while tinyAlbert writes them and its automations before you review them. Decide which of those costs matters more to your store.

The best email marketing apps for Shopify, reviewed

1. Shopify Messaging (formerly Shopify Email), with Campaign Autopilot

What it is: Shopify's own email app. You build campaigns and automations from the Shopify admin, using your store's products and customer data directly.

Price: according to Shopify's pricing page, stores on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus get 10,000 free emails at the start of every month. After that you pay $1 per 1,000 emails up to 300,000, then $0.65 per 1,000, and $0.55 per 1,000 after 750,000. Abandoned checkout emails are always free and do not count toward the 10,000. Other automations, such as a welcome series, do count.

Campaign Autopilot: since 17 June 2026, Shopify also offers Campaign Autopilot, a free tool in the Growth section of the admin. It recommends marketing actions across Shopify Messaging email, Shop Campaigns, Meta Ads and Microsoft Advertising, and generates branded emails and automations such as abandoned checkout and welcome series. You can approve each action first or let it create campaigns on its own within guardrails you set, and you pay for the channels you use. Our Campaign Autopilot review covers what it does for email.

Best for: stores that send fewer than 10,000 emails a month and want nothing extra to install or pay for.

Watch out for: once you send weekly to a few thousand people, the free allowance goes quickly. And Autopilot suggests separate tactics as it goes and picks the audience itself, so you review its ideas rather than a plan for your year.

2. Klaviyo

What it is: an email and mobile messaging platform with deep segmentation, flows and reporting.

Price: the free plan covers up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, with $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage a month, and email support for the first 60 days. Paid email plans start at $20 a month. Klaviyo bills by active profiles, and the price for your exact count is shown in the calculator on its pricing page.

Best for: stores that want email and mobile messages in one account, and someone who enjoys building flows and segments.

Watch out for: the free plan stops at 250 active profiles and 500 sends, so most stores with a few hundred customers will pay. Klaviyo gives you the tools; you or a freelancer still write and plan every campaign. See our Klaviyo comparison for how it lines up with tinyAlbert at each list size.

3. Omnisend

What it is: an email and SMS platform built for online stores, with automations, popups and a drag-and-drop builder.

Price: Omnisend's pricing page lists a Free plan for 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, Standard from $16 a month (500 contacts and 6,000 emails a month) and Pro from $59 a month, with unlimited emails and SMS from $0.007 per message. Omnisend's own guides state $44 a month on Standard and $59 a month on Pro at 2,500 contacts, and $132 a month at 10,000 contacts. A 30% discount for the first three months is offered if you pay upfront.

Best for: stores that want email and SMS in the same workflows, at a clear price per contact.

Watch out for: Standard caps monthly sends, and SMS sits on Pro. Like Klaviyo, Omnisend is a toolkit: the campaigns are yours to plan and write. Our Omnisend comparison sets the plans next to tinyAlbert's tiers.

4. Judge.me Email Marketing

What it is: an email app from the reviews company Judge.me, which launched on the Shopify App Store on 14 July 2026. It carries the Built for Shopify badge.

Price: the listing shows a Forever Free plan with 15,000 free emails a month, then $0.15 per 1,000. The Awesome plan is $15 a month plus the same usage charges, and adds a custom domain and removes Judge.me branding. Free includes six ready-to-use automations, abandoned checkout recovery, win-back, campaigns, templates and signup popups with discount codes.

Best for: small stores that want to pay nothing, send a little more than Shopify's free allowance, and are happy to set up campaigns themselves.

Watch out for: it is priced per email, so a list you email often grows the bill with every send. You choose and write the campaigns.

5. Seguno

What it is: a Shopify-native marketing suite: email campaigns and automations, popups, reviews and banners, with Canva and Shopify Sidekick support in the editor. It carries the Built for Shopify badge.

Price: the listing shows Starter free for up to 250 subscribers, Standard at $35 a month including 2,500 subscribers, and Pro at $215 a month including 25,000 subscribers. There is a 10-day free trial. On the listing, popups, reviews, banners, back-in-stock alerts, browse and cart abandonment and custom automations sit on Standard.

Best for: merchants who want several marketing tools in one Shopify-native app, and who like designing their own emails.

Watch out for: at 500 subscribers you pay the same $35 as at 2,500, and the free tier leaves out cart abandonment. You still plan and write each campaign.

6. Wiz AI Email & Abandoned Cart

What it is: an AI email app focused on abandoned cart recovery, with campaigns, flows and popups. It carries the Built for Shopify badge.

Price: the listing shows a free plan for development stores only, Pro at $29.99 a month and AI Agency at $99.99 a month, each up to 2,000 active contacts, with prices that rise as active contacts grow, and a 7-day free trial. The listing describes AI Agency as the plan that plans, writes and designs your monthly campaigns.

Best for: stores that want AI-written recovery and campaign emails, and are comfortable paying for the higher plan to get campaign planning.

Watch out for: campaign planning sits on the $99.99 plan. Wiz's own website shows different prices from its listing, so check the price at checkout.

7. Mailchimp

What it is: a general marketing platform with a Shopify integration.

Price: Mailchimp's compare-plans page lists a Free plan for 250 contacts with a maximum of 500 sends a month (250 a day) and no automation flows. Essentials, Standard and Premium are priced by contact tier, with monthly sends capped at 10, 12 and 15 times your contacts. Generative AI features are on Standard and Premium. The price for your tier is shown on the page for your location.

Best for: businesses that already run Mailchimp for other channels or several shops and want one account.

Watch out for: the free plan has no automation flows, so even an abandoned cart email means a paid plan. At 500 contacts, Essentials allows 5,000 sends a month. Our Mailchimp comparison shows the send caps at each size.

8. tinyAlbert

What it is: an AI email marketing app for Shopify that works as your email marketing manager. When you install it, you answer four questions: the layout (Colourful, Minimalist or Professional), the tone of voice (one of seven), the language (one of ten) and a short description of your store. It then writes a calendar of campaigns mapped to your store's category and retail moments, six automations (two welcome series, one with a 10% discount, thank you for purchase, win-back, product review request and abandoned cart) and four signup forms. Nothing sends until you switch it on, and you can preview, edit, regenerate or test any email first.

Price: $3 a month for up to 100 contacts after a 7-day free trial, then by contacts with unlimited sends: $10 a month for 251 to 500 contacts, $45 for 2,001 to 2,500 and $162 for 9,001 to 10,000. There is no free plan. Every tier is on the pricing page.

What else you get: sending is authenticated from day one (DKIM, SPF and DMARC verified on a tinyAlbert-managed sending address, and you can add your own domain). There are 28 pre-built segments, including 12 for deliverability, such as Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft and iCloud recovery. By default it plans about one campaign a week, and you can change how many campaigns go out and when.

Best for: small stores that want their email marketing done for them, with a year of campaigns ready to review rather than a blank editor. See how done-for-you email marketing works.

Watch out for: it is email only today; SMS is coming soon, so if you need texts now, Omnisend or Klaviyo fit better. It has no free plan, and if you send under 10,000 emails a month and are happy to write them yourself, Shopify Messaging costs nothing. tinyAlbert does not carry the Built for Shopify badge.

Also worth a look

  • Uppush: email plus web push, priced per send. The listing shows a free plan with 100 emails and 500 web push impressions and unlimited subscribers; PRO is $12.99 a month including 3,000 emails, then $0.35 per 1,000 emails. Good if abandoned cart recovery is your main need.
  • Sequenzy: an AI-first email platform with a free plan of 2,500 emails a month and unlimited subscribers on its listing, and paid plans from $19 for 15,000 emails. Its main market is software companies; the Shopify app launched in May 2026.
  • LTV.ai: AI agents that build finished campaigns overnight for you to approve. The listing charges $0.004 per email, and its site sets a $499 monthly minimum, so it suits large brands rather than small stores.

Does Shopify have email marketing built in?

Yes. Shopify Messaging is Shopify's own email app, and on paid plans it includes 10,000 free emails a month plus free abandoned checkout emails. For many new stores that is enough to start. You need a separate app when you want more than Shopify gives you: campaigns written for you, SMS in the same tool, or deliverability tools by inbox provider. Our guide to what Shopify's email marketing includes for free goes through it step by step, and the Shopify Email comparison sets Messaging and Autopilot against tinyAlbert.

How to choose an email marketing app for your Shopify store

1. Count your sends, not just your contacts

Multiply your list by your monthly campaigns and add your automations. Under 10,000 emails a month, Shopify Messaging is free and Judge.me's free plan goes to 15,000. Above that, compare per-contact prices with unlimited sends.

2. Decide who will write the emails

This is the cost most comparisons leave out. Klaviyo, Omnisend, Seguno, Mailchimp, Judge.me and Shopify Messaging give you an editor and templates; someone still plans the calendar and writes each email. If that someone is you, an app that writes the campaigns may be worth more than a lower monthly price. Wiz's AI Agency plan and tinyAlbert both write campaigns for you; they differ in price and in how far ahead they plan.

3. List the automations you need on day one

For most small stores that is abandoned cart, a welcome series and a post-purchase thank you. Check that each one is on the plan you will pay for: Mailchimp's free plan has no automation flows, and Seguno's free tier leaves out cart abandonment.

4. Check sender authentication

Ask how the app authenticates your sending with SPF, DKIM and DMARC on day one, and whether you can send from your own domain. Our guide to Gmail and Yahoo sender requirements explains why it matters. Judge.me puts a custom domain on its paid Awesome plan; tinyAlbert verifies all three on a managed address and lets you add your own domain.

5. Decide whether you need SMS now

If text messages are part of your plan this year, Klaviyo and Omnisend include them. If email is your focus, a dedicated email app keeps things simpler.

6. Use the free trial on your real store

Install your shortlist one at a time and look at what the app gives you in the first hour. Avoid running two apps that send the same automation: pause one before you switch the other on.

Where tinyAlbert fits

tinyAlbert is not the cheapest app on this list for every store, and it is not trying to be the biggest toolkit. Its job is to remove the work: you install it, answer four questions, and review a year of campaigns and six automations written in your voice before anything sends. At 500 contacts that costs $10 a month and at 2,500 it costs $45, with unlimited sends. If that sounds like the help your store needs, you can try tinyAlbert free for 7 days and compare it with your current setup. Every side-by-side is on our comparison pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best email marketing app for Shopify?

It depends on your list and how much time you have. Shopify Messaging is best if you send under 10,000 emails a month. Klaviyo and Omnisend suit stores that want a full toolkit and will build their own flows. tinyAlbert suits small stores that want a year of campaigns and core automations written for them, from $3 a month.

What is the best free email marketing app for Shopify?

Shopify Messaging gives 10,000 free emails a month on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, and abandoned checkout emails are always free. Judge.me Email Marketing's Forever Free plan includes 15,000 emails a month, then $0.15 per 1,000. Klaviyo, Omnisend and Mailchimp have free plans capped at 250 contacts or profiles.

Is Shopify's own email marketing good enough?

For many new stores, yes. Shopify Messaging builds campaigns from your products, sends abandoned checkout emails free and costs nothing up to 10,000 emails a month. You may want an app when you need campaigns written for you, SMS in the same tool, or deliverability features such as inbox-recovery segments by email provider.

Which Shopify email app writes the emails for you?

tinyAlbert writes a year of campaigns and six automations in your chosen tone, layout and language, and sets up four signup forms, from $3 a month. Wiz's AI Agency plan, at $99.99 a month up to 2,000 active contacts, plans, writes and designs your monthly campaigns. Shopify's Campaign Autopilot generates emails and automations for you to approve.

Can I use two email apps on Shopify at the same time?

Yes, as long as only one app handles each job. If two apps both send abandoned cart or welcome emails, your customers get duplicates. Before you switch on an automation in a new app, pause the one that does the same job in the old app, then check a test order to confirm only one email arrives.
