How Many Shopify Stores Are There?

Since its start in 2006, Shopify has witnessed explosive growth, evolving from a simple platform to a global e-commerce ecosystem. One of the key indicators of this growth is the number of Shopify stores that have sprung up over the years.

According to Ecommerce News, the number of stores on Shopify grew 200% between 2020 and 2022, growing to over 2.6 million stores in the United States. A whole year later, and Shopify now hosts 6.9 million sites worldwide.

However, it’s important to note that of those 6.9 million stores, not all of them are live. Live sites are stores that are publicly accessible and allow customers to go to, browse, and buy from the sites. Offline sites are those that have been created on Shopify’s platform, but cannot be visited due to various factors, such as maintenance issues or because the owner has paused the store.  As of 2023, Shopify hosts more than 4.3 million sites globally.
